Humanize, Equalize, Spiritualize : Part 2

Sushama Joag

The first step to achieve self furtherance and thereby social furtherance is to humanize ourselves. Behave with all humans as humans, not like animals!

The next step after humanizing ourselves is to equalize. Aren’t all humans equal? By no means they are! Gender is the first and foremost factor setting them unequal. Age is another. Apart from these natural factors, innumerable manmade factors work to raise walls of inequality amidst humans. Wealth and profession, caste and creed, region and religion are the topmost points of discrimination.

How to equalize all humans in this world full of discrimination?

‘Five fingers are not equal’ is an age-old saying, implying inequality to be an intrinsic parameter at work even within a single entity, the human body. Each organ of human body is different from the others and performs distinct function it is destined for. Disrespect to any of these organs results ultimately in malfunctioning of the body. Moral of the story is that all the ‘fingers‘ are to be respected in spite of their intrinsic inequality. Humans may be unequal on various grounds, they are to be made equal by giving respect to all of them.

We come across various people in various contexts in our lives. We have different relationships with them in our family life, professional life and social life. While fulfilling the requirements, duties of these different relationships we must always keep in mind that the other person is also a human being like us, hence we must control ourselves and behave like human with every other person, whatever may be the situation. We must respect every other person at emotional as well as practical level.

It is very important to learn to equalize after learning to humanize on the path of self furtherance and subsequent social furtherance.
